Open Source Boxes for the Masses?

I listened to Tim O'Reilly (of O'Reilly Publications) on IT Conversations giving a speech here in Portland last month at the Open Source Conference. It was interesting as he described the 'net' as the platform (makes sense to me) and the next generation of 'apps' are Amazon, Ebay and Google API's for building out your own commerce widgets (interesting notion). He then talked about the open-source box becoming ubiquitous.

It would be interesting to see the Dell's and Gateways of the world begin to switch to Open Source boxes for the masses. I wonder what's holding things back right now? One thing for sure is that their is no Open Source marketing group. However, the Open Source model is one that will be an interesting concept to watch over time as it is adopted in various business models and technologies.
